[Education column]EBS lecture exploitation strategy for successful 2010’s Soo-neung(CSAT) practice test.



The first practice test for preparation of 2011’s college entrance exam begins in this coming June 10th. Students’ and their parents’ interests are high as ever as this practice entrance exam is performed after announcement of ‘70% Soo-neung (CSAT) linked EBS lectures’ by Ministry of Education, Science and Technology.



This June’s practice test will be presented with approximately 50% from EBS Soo-neung (CSAT) materials and lectures which will gradually strengthen its linkage with actual test continuously. Later, the September’s practice test will have linkage rate of 60% and November practice test with 70%.



For this, students of examinee are actively setting up their lesson plans by basis of EBS materials and lectures to prepare for the practice test, however they are still unsure about the ‘EBS-Soo-neung’s linkage rate which has troubled their study strategies.

▶ Maintaining original study habits, checking up on quantity of each subject



It is fact that students are bewildered by the news that 70% of EBS Soo-neung (CSAT) lecture will be linked with the test. It is natural that many students have questions on, whether how the test questions are going to be changed and what to do with their existing study materials. It is better to forget about these insignificant questions as their fundamental study habits maintained until now can collapse.



Students must prepare their practice test by arranging their plans in between the EBS lecture and the material by basis of existing original plans. They must measure to what extent they are prepared with each subject by precisely acknowledging the sphere of practice test, and regular commencement of test preparation starts by checking on the complementing lectures that students lack or EBS lectures that they must partake.



▶ EBS lectures∙materials are not ‘absolute’, choose only those needed by students



I believe that there are presently about 100 materials presented by EBS and approximately 30 materials will be chosen by each student to fit for their relevant sphere and their elective subject. Of course it would be a sloppy way of educating themselves if students plan to buy all of these materials for preparation. This goes same to the lectures.



Students will witness that amount of lectures related to Soo-neung (CSAT) is vast and diverse inside the online lecture website. Also materials and number of lectures are massive to be memorized by heart even if the actual test questions resemble the test questions.



There is high possibility that the test will reflect on key concepts & principles and information, prints and charts and other data from EBS lectures, however students must bear in mind that questions presented in materials will not be presented in the examination just as it was. Especially it is extremely important to adapt to concepts and new information introduced by EBS, and type of the questions for preparation of practice test.



In this year’s practice test, students must make practical use of EBS lectures and materials based on those subjects requires for supplement or on subjects that they have low confidence with.



▶ Practice test in June, EBS-Soo-neung with 50% of non-linkage rate

The linkage rate of EBS lecture and this year’s Soo-neung will be risen up to 70%, however practice test in June will have only about 50% of linkage rate. This indicates that existing specific & inference questions will also be 50%. Because of this, the most important aspect of this practice test is not to forget for the students to check on their existing types of the questions.



Students must not destroy what they have been accumulating until now just by devoting themselves on EBS lectures. Furthermore it is necessary to review and check on the past learning strategies. Students should be possible to precisely understand and inflect on the concepts and knowledge, and they should smoothly solve the questions with similar patterns.



Shallow understanding and mechanical memorization of documents and data through lecture is difficult to be applied to the practice test including the actual Soo-neung (CSAT) test.



This year’s practice test is an important process to check on student’s capability and problem difficulties, but also it is a test to directly experience on linkage policy of EBS Soo-neung (CSAT) lectures. Students must confirm on how to inflect the EBS lectures and materials through this year’s test, and must progress to check on generalized learning strategies for November’s actual Soo-neung (CSAT)
