the original Memorial Day was proclaimed on May 30th, 1865, this was changed in 1971, apparently 3 day weekends beat-out traditional observances.

while I honor those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice for our country,
from its' beginnings to the present day,
I also acknowledge in symaphy, and with great respect,
the loved ones that they left behind,
there are a great many of us who think of you, and are praying for you....

Turning it into a Monday holiday is a disgrace - there is a movement afoot to put it back.

28% of grade school children, when asked what Memorial Day was, responded, "That is the day they open the pool." Tell that isn't a total disgrace?

No wonder it seems like this place is going to hell in a hand basket. It's not, but we need to wake up and set some things straight. :)

lol @ allot of rain. I have been giving FEMA the nickle tour for a week. The worst one I saw had wet carpets on the second floor. That and a campgound that is basically missing and my town got off easy.

yes - I think there is an online petition to sign to move memorial day back to it's traditional day. I signed it eons ago. call it (one of my many) a pet peeve. lol
