Honey Bee (Apis mellifera) on flowers of Palmer's Goldenbush

11/10/09
Common Honey Bee (Apis mellifera) working the new flowers of Palmer's Goldenbush (Ericameria palmeri var. pachylepis) growing on the dry flood plain by the river. (Paradise, Santa Ynez River, 10 November 2009)

It's interesting that the pollen in the flowers and on the bee's rump is yellow, but the pollen in its pollen baskets is orange. I have no idea why.
