Syrphid Flower Fly (Syrphidae, Diptera) working Bush Groundsel

11/8/09
I believe this is a Syrphid Flower Fly (family Syrphidae in the order Diptera) working a composite flower of native Bush Groundsel (Senecio douglasii) shrub in the Sunflower (Asteraceae) plant family. That well-placed halo in the background is a dandelion-like seed-head of another flower. See my [Previous] photo. (San Marcos Pass, 8 November 2009)
