Remarkable Weed's Mariposa Lily (Calochortus fimbriata)

Remarkable summer wildflower of Weed's Mariposa Lily (Calochortus weedii var. vestus) - now renamed as C. fimbriata - in the Lily (Lilium) family. I've also heard it called the "Late-flowered Mariposa Lily".

It's remarkable looking - but it's also remarkable because it picks the middle of our bone-dry summer drought to flower. (San Marcos Pass, 12 July 2009)
