You can see right through the wings of this Snowberry Clearwing Moth (Hemaris diffinis) working native flowers of Coyote Mint aka White-leaf Monardella (Monardella hypoleuca) in the Mint (Lamiaceae) plant family. (Santa Ynez Mountains, 9 July 2009)
It's a challenge to photograph these diurnal (daytime) moths - they hover like little hummingbirds and constantly move from flower to flower.
