This Greenwich Village Bistro is an odd duck of a restaurant. I grab lunch here on weekends now and again and occasionally stop in for dinner with friends, but it is only as a convenience, not a destination.
The quality of the food is middling - it will do when youre more interested in conversation than cuisine. The standard, American or New York dishes are all just a little off-kilter. The hash browns dont hold together quite right. The croque monsieur comes with some pink pickled onion stuff that seems to be of Asian origin but doesnt suit the rest of the plate. The macaroni and cheese a fine idea for a restaurant aiming for a homey feel is a bit watery and not flavored strongly enough.
Each time I go there I wonder why. It has to do with quick, easy and cheap and not much else.
