Siguiendo con la semana de bienvenida, anoche hubo barbacoa (perritos calientes, alitas de pavo y los famosos nachos con queso) servida por “oficiales elegidos por la ciudad” (concejales en campaña, supongo) y luego algo que aquí llaman la fiesta griega, que lo único que tiene de griego son las letras del alfabeto que usan para los nombres de las hermandades: mucha música rap y un círculo de gente bailando o mirando, en el que me colé como uno de los dos únicos blancos e hice algunas fotos. Las fraternidades y sororidades (suena bastante mal en español, pero tiene raíz latina) hicieron alguna coreografía y al final el frío hizo que la cosa decayera un poco y aguanté sólo un par de horas antes de volver al calor de mi habitación (han cambiado el aire acondicionado al máximo por la calefacción al máximo, no tienen medida). Hoy he tenido pocos alumnos, muchos han aprovechado la bienvenida para irse de vacaciones y otros para levantarse tarde, y eso que la semana que viene les pongo un examen...
Esta noche coronan a la Miss del college, y luego hay baile de gala. Y luego me han invitado a un cumpleaños en el que se promete cerveza, lo mismo ni duermo en casa esta noche, porque cierran la residencia por las noches.

Continuing with Homecoming week, yesterday night we had BBQ (hot dogs, turkey wings and famous nachos with cheese) served by “city elected officers” (on campaign, I guess) and then something that they call Greek party, where the only Greek are the alphabet letters they use for the names of fraternities and sororities: lots of rap music and a circle of people dancing or just looking, where I stayed as one of the two only white people and took some photos. The fraternities and sororities made some choreographies and in the end it was so cold that the thing went a bit down and I remained only a couple of hours before going back to the warm of my room (they changed the air conditioning on the maximum for heating on the maximum, no middle point). Today I had few students, lots of them used this homecoming week to go on holidays and others to wake up late, but next week I’ll give them an exam…
This evening we have Miss College carnation, and then ball. And then I’m invited to a birthday party where beer is promised, maybe I won’t sleep at home tonight, cause the dorm is closed in the night.
