Palestinian view:
1. Palestinians do not regard the Israeli disengagement from settlements in the Gaza Strip and in Jenin Governorate a gift from Sharon. It's rather a stolen right since 1967. Palestinians consider the disengagement process a victory of right.
2. The Israeli Disengagement and withdrawal from these settlements is a national achievement and is the springboard towards salvation.
3. The world should not be deceived by Israeli propaganda as regards the Disengagement: The fact is that these settlements are almost empty since Oslo Agreement, except for some employees from the so called Civil Administration staff. In fact, there are twenty-two settlements in Jenin alone and 155 settlements in the West Bank. These settlements cover 142 million square meters while they house 422.000 settlers.
4. Palestinians should celebrate this occasion and continue their struggle for salvation from occupation. Palestinians fear that the Disengagement from Gaza at the expense of that from West Bank; settlers may be transferred to the West Bank. Due to the international pressure and the implications made by Israel as regards the peace process, and relevant to certain security strategies, Sharon created the Disengagement Plan. He has worked on it and promised to implement it on August 15th 2005. His plan includes the Disengagement from the settlements of the Gaza Strip and four settlements in Jenin Governorate
The Israeli mass media have highlighted the propaganda of the Disengagement from the northern part of the West Bank, but the status quo is different. Their plan is to withdraw from four almost evacuated settlements. To say the northern part of the West Bank means the Disengagement should apply to the Governorate of Jenin, Nablus, Tulkaram and Qalqilia. However, the Israeli plan of Disengagement includes four settlements in Jenin only which are Ganim, Qadim, Sa Nur, Homesh and Arraba Military Post.
