Whirling Dervish

11/15/09
In Goreme, Cappadocia, Turkey, September 2009

Another from our holiday. Some of us went to the Dervish ceremony in the evening and after one of the men came back so we could take photos. I also did a video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QDAbBOwuBo8

Another dry and warm but windy day today. We both went to music practice this morning as the concert is in two weeks. It went pretty well, but I need more practice on some of the faster bits.

Have done some work on the kitchen walls, but keep getting distracted by meal times, cats, facebook games and other things. But I have a deadline of next Friday when the flooring comes to get it done so must do a bit more this evening.

Have a good week.

Ufff yo ese baile de dar tantas vueltas y sin marearse lo veo dificilisimo.
besitos

Hi Patsy!
What a lovely photo! We were lucky to have a Dervish group visit Santa Cruz years ago, so we experienced one of their powerful performances. Such beautiful simplicity! Hope your day goes well! take care *hugs*

Es una maravilla el ver como dan vueltas y mas vueltas y sin marearse

Abrazos

Super photo and video. I love the simplicity of his outfit. Did it get faster? I always imagined them to be very fast, probably because my mum used to say I was like a whirling dervish in the house!

Glad you liked the youtube link. His face was a picture wasn't it!

Your timing was perfect - he is a picture of concentration!

I can just guess what "the distractions" were about!
Looking forward to seeing the flooring you finally decided on :-)

Hugs,
Aud

BE HAPPY MY FRIEND.

My Turkish son from last year gave me a video on Turkey and it showed this ceremony. Made me dizzy. I wonder how they do it? Would make me hurl my breakfast ! ha ha.

you'd be amazed to discover how often I've had to translate derwish-related metaphors over the last couple of years. so it's good to see the guy at last :)

Patsy, very interesting photo. It must have been dizzying to watch this whirling about.

As you know the weatiher stunk here for about 3-4 days, but we have had two back to back beauties now both about sunny and 70F. We are all afraid if this keeps up the trees and flowers will get very confused and start budding again evern before it get cold.

Have a good evening.
Harry

thank You !!!

Greetings from Poland\\

...is he the Bride? ...or a Bridesmaid?

good shot, Patsy, never easy shooting indoors, low light and moving subject but it came out pretty well. I've only once seen whirling dervishes in person and of all places it was on a floating stage in Docklands in London, before it was regenerated with Canary Wharf etc, Jean Michel Jarre had them on stage for one track
