Brisbane Roar vs. Gold Coast United
8/8/09
The day was a lazy day, I replaced the toggles on the controllers [which are now as good as new] then just listened to music and played a few games.
I put on my jersey, picked up my scarf and flag and got going.
I left for Talisha's house around 4.50pm and got there just after 5pm.
She was wearing her new jersey and would fit in great! This would be her first stadium event to sitting in 'The Den' was going to be an experience for her indeed.
We got to Chermside and parked with no trouble at all... We decided to leave the flag in the car as it is quite a big one [note: get smaller flag] then walked to the busses.
Talisha was quite in awe of how many people were waiting to get the bus into the stadium.
I chose to wear a shirt under my jersey and was glad I did!
We got the second bus and got to the stadium at about 6.10pm. We then walked to the McDonalds to get some dinner (have never seen so much orange at a McDonalds as this before) then went back to the stadium. We then went into the shop and had a look at scarves, beanies, jerseys, etc. and got a wrist band each before going inside the stadium.
Kick-off was 5 minutes late but I don't think anyone cared. The stark comparison between our bay {332} and the one beside us {331} was quite shocking. Here, our side, all orange and chanting while the other side, all quiet, staring, wearing clothes you wouldn't really wear to the football... quite strange. The woman in the front of the other bay was really weird. She kept staring at the Orange Army and pointing and making comments, then we went to get some wine. WELL!!! After half of the little glass, who was the one screaming and swearing now!?! The stupid thing was [she was a United supporter] they had the ball and she screams out, "Get the f***ing ball!". After finishing the glass, she kinda wobbled out of the seat, never to return.
Gold Coast United scored once in the first half, on the 18th minute, which really pissed us off as we had had quite a few chances that didn't quite convert to a goal. The referee was extremely biased towards United, which agitated everyone in our bay...
At half time, the little kids came out to play! They are so cute!
In the second half, Zullo came on and got involved in the game straight away.
Again, we had quite a few chances but just couldn't score.
United scored again on the 57th minute, which made us quite angry then.
Zullo came down in the box just before full-time so we were given a penalty...
GGGOOOOOAAAALLLLLLLL!!!!
It may have been from a penalty but we didn't give a shit - a goal is a goal!
We were hoping for an equalizer then but United shattered that within minutes, scoring their 3rd of the night. After what seemed like forever, the ref blew the final whistle...
BRISBANE ROAR 1 - 3 GOLD COAST UNITED
We the got on the 4th bus back to Chermside and got there at some time.
Talisha had bought a football for her brother and wanted to blow it up so we went looking for a petrol station that had the old style tyre pumps. The one near my house had the old style but I knew they wouldn't be open, but they might leave the hoses on at night-time...
No, they didn't.
We then drove down near Centro Taigum to go to a station in the Sandgate area and as we drove past Olivia's house, we honked the horn over and over just for the fun of it, and to see what she would say on Monday.
We pulled into the Coles Express on Sandgate Rd and Talisha wanted chocolate so got out of the car, I decided to get petrol as it was only $1.26/L and didn't think that next Tuesday would be cheap Tuesday as the Wednesday would be a holiday. $40 later I met her inside. The guy serving was quite cute and we were overly happy and excited so we seemed quite weird. She ended up getting a 'V' instead.
We got back in the car and then went to the air hose and YAY!!! it was the old style so we jumped out and started filling up the ball, bounced it around a few times, got back in the car, wanted more air in it so we jumped out again and put more in it, jumped back in and headed towards her house.
Called into the McDonalds around 11pm I think, could have been later, and got 2 apple pies [I'd been craving them for the last hour and a bit] then drove through the shops to her place.
I dropped her off then headed home. Got home around 11.30pm-ish and updated a few things before heading to bed around 1.20am.
We may have lost the first match of the season but this is one football experience I won't forget!!!
Thank you Talisha for coming with me to the match! It was so much more enjoyable with you there!!!
