Every year in Canada, we remember all the men and women who have fought in various wars throughout the years. The poppy pin as shown above is used in Canada as a sign of respect and in commemoration of the fallen.
The first Remembrance Day was conducted in 1919 throughout the Commonwealth and was originally called Armistice Day. It commemorated the end of the First World War on Monday, November 11, 1918, at 11 a.m.: the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month. The name was changed to Remembrance Day in 1931 and each year there is a moment of silence at 11:00 am on Nov.11. For more information, see
