I took this photo back in December, on my drive from Denver to Missouri when the second leg of my flight home was cancelled due to bad weather. A 700 mile drive that I was actually happy to have the opportunity to do. I love the flat minimal beauty of Kansas. Particularly when the sky and colors were as clear as this.
Which they were, until 70 miles west of Kansas City where I was diverted by a blizzard pileup of 30 vehicles and spent the last four hours creeping home in ever-worsening conditions.

It took a bit of researching to deduce that this was Quinter, Kansas, as I'd not noted the location when I took the photograph. I studied the small towns along I-70, while simultaneously checking back and forth with a photo compendium of grain elevator photos by location.
In checking Wikipedia, I came across the charming fact that Quinter is home to America's oldest worker, one Waldo McBurney, who at 105 years young, still works as a beekeeper.
