I cancelled my gold camera subscription today. I`ve had a gold camera since the first day they were available, and I donated to fotolog before that. I`ve stuck with fotolog through over a year of the crappiest performance imaginable. I`ve contributed not merely money, not merely advice and experience, but actual coding - I wrote the first versions of both group uploading and reverse friends/favorites, which fotolog later copied with my blessing.

So why am I giving up now?

Because of Elke.

I don`t even know what her job is supposed to be at fotolog, but whatever it is she is doing it poorly. She barely speaks English, and is apparently even worse at Portuguese. Her idea of customer relations seems to be insulting the customers as often as possible.

I didn`t care too much about that until I became one of her targets. Yesterday I posted a new topic on the ezboard about fotolog`s lack of a software developer. In the topic I included a direct quote from Elke. Elke deleted this topic without any explanation or notice to me. When I figured it out for myself and objected, instead of apologizing she started lying about what I had said in the topic, claiming I had misquoted her.

This behavior is unacceptable, and I will not have any of my money go towards this person`s salary.

I remain hopeful that fotolog will hire a competent software person and turn itself around. But for now I will be focusing my energy elsewhere.

how sad.

I read your about, here is my contribution: If all the ifs were horses we would have the choice of either being run over or having to ride them to the end. My guru told me that.

After all the great contributions, either by actual work or insightful suggestions [that never saw the light of the day, by the way], it took you long enough to quit. What amazes me the most is that you _still_ believe that fotolog will hire a good software dev someday. Don`t you think that if they were ever to do that, they`d have done it already? For me they missed the point about the golden cameras long ago...

I LOVE the picture. Fotolog HAS jumped the shark. For me it happened a while ago. Even if they get their shit together now, it will never be the same. Someone on the discussion board said yesterday that flog has "squandered good will" and I think that that is exactly what they have done.

Jef - I`m truly sorry to hear about this. I will look into it and contact you directly. Your dedication, help and presence here have always been greatly appreciated by me and the rest of the community.

wah!

Love the Fonz! I hope you don`t quit completely, because I really enjoy looking at your photos. You do great work. As for the problems with Fotolog, they are self apparent, which is why I don`t have a gold camera.

jef, I`m very sorry.

ack!

the fonz, sweet: was trying to cancel my gold cam, but couldn`t find a way on paypal. perhaps i am dumb. wanna support, but agree the site has gone to shit

Nice one and yes, looks like the fonz

man that sounds bad!

I can understand you very well. I was wondering where the thread went, especially after Elke had repeatedly stated before that they *never* delete anything out of those boards.

I was contacted by Elke when she just started to work for Fotolog. I was told to please keep it confidential. I fell for her sweet words. Then I learned. And I moved on.

Flickr is only confusing until you really try it, Jef. The admins over there listen to all our sugestions (mainly made in the Fotolog.net group over there) and react extremely fast - unheard of in Fotolog!

Maybe you should check it out again, it`s changed a lot in this last month. Your features are accessable from the bottom of every single page now :)

But I agree, Fotothing is not bad either. Again: it`s run by someone who listens and reacts. What more does one want?

you were right, it`s not mount tam but angel island, just to the right of the big powerboat. fotolog clearly has problems, but I still SO enjoy seeing all the photos, and comments...

hey jef... i loved that cassiopeia A image! check out this borrisco i took last night... not unalike!

Who is the author of your fotolog`s title?

November 2nd:

THE WHOLE WORLD IS WATCHING

taken off the san mateo coast yesterday, some of the wave pictures were taken at montara & pescadero beaches, but also some taken from pullouts along Hwy 1...

yeah sunday might be good for me... i may be staying the night in the city sat night... but we should get will, and petalum and courtney etc in on it...

i`ve been riding my bike more and more, and loving it........so i`d really like to join the ride. please let me know where and when. thanks.

hi jef, have there been any more thoughts on JHP @ noon?

hey jef... yeah i wanna to do the ggb! but damn my knees have been killing me today... i think if i take it easy tonight ie... not go out and really use my gears properly to create a low impact ride i should be fine though... whaddya think? id hate to be a postponer...

hey thanks for the headsup on the fotostroll, but i gotta get my shit together and put some photos in frames for daisyjellybean. i only have time to work on photo stuff on the weekends right now, and the deadline is looming. soon though i`ll be able to go for fotostrolls.

oh, and what`s the deal with that customer relations lady? that thread is still not there last time i looked...

I must admit I`m addicted to the half-artichoke, half-green-chile soup at Duartes -- I think I`ve had the cioppino once, but it`s the soup that I get crazy cravings for, not to mention the ollalieberry pie...

it`s not! they must freeze some of the berries, as I had a piece of pie last friday... so good...

????
!!

yes, I have been to Alamere Falls, although not for a number of years... what a perfect spot, as long as the creek is still running!

do you get to that waterfall from Kehoe or McClures? we started around the rocky southern corner of McClures, but it was pretty high tide & we couldn`t get any further, plus close to sunset.

was out at Limantour sunday & it was a low, low, LOW tide -- I`d been out sailing the day before, so knew it was low, & got some good ones of an exceptionally wide beach -- will be posting soon (I can`t seem to break the chronological habit!)

lovely falls, and gorgeous one of mcclures right after it! I`ve just posted one that shows our disadvantage for trying to hike along the beach...

http://www.fotolog.net/lawatt/?pid=9375021

several were breaking over it that day! it was sunny, but the day after that post-election day storm had finally exited, & the waves were still pretty big.

and it`s funny, I`ve spent years doing research out at PR, but much more focused on the built envt & area`s history, so I don`t know the physical envt. as well as I should...

wow thats alot of drama...too bad i could care less and im realy here to see photos. who am i to judge ones perspective.

yeah. i`m in agreeance you on the fotolog issue. i feel like they`ve had a poor business model from the outset. now things are crunching and it never seems to change. plus there are competing sites now (fotoamigo, for example) that charge less and are WAY more reliable.

but maybe you`re doing the right thing to change it. if rocking the boat and shocking the system is what it takes, then fuck it, do it. you got a PERSONAL COMMENT from cypher about it. if enough people get pissed something will happen.

and RE: bike licenses... i have a feeling that in NYC the only time they`ll enforce it is once a month at the critical mass rides. which is basically why it`s a bad idea. plus... $25 for a license? i have a few bikes that are only WORTH $25... hahaha

hey i like you pix

have a great weekend

lotz of luv

Just saw you at the other site and sought you out here to verify it was you. You have made great contributions to this site as I remember your Reverse F/F before it became Fotologs. I agree with your Jumping the Shark comment. While I am not a regular on the forums I have used them to no satisfaction when addressing a problem. To this day I cannot get proper comment notifications and I am bothered by all the quirks of the system. I foolishly have prepaid my account until August of next year so I don`t know if I could get any of that back but I have all but given up on this site as well.....hate to see it go to waste. Your thoughts....?

mate, had no idea... can we be of any support to you?

wow......what a forum this page is turning into.

as for your question of where my beach shot was, fort funston. just south of ocean beach in sunny and warm san francisco.

Roller-furled == lame.

you can say that again -- double after today!

hanked on,
laura

that`s genius (googling ektacom)!

mmmmm.... francesc
