The Ibdaa Health Committee (IHC) is a branch of the Ibdaa Cultural Center, a grassroots organization in the Dheisheh Refugee Camp in the Palestinian West Bank. Local healthcare professionals established IHC in June 2003 in response to the urgent needs of the Dheisheh population, where the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) clinic is staffed by only one doctor to serve a population of 11,000 people. Today, IHC is a community based, non-partisan, and democratic association comprised of local and international volunteer health professionals, including nurses, physicians, social workers, psychologists, and sociologists, all of whom are committed to improving the overall healthcare system for all Palestinians residing in Dheisheh as well as the larger Bethlehem district. Through the spirit of voluntarism and teamwork strengthened by a mobilized grassroots community, IHC works at the local level within three important spheres: the community, healthcare professionals, and medical organizations.
