Sylph - Tales of Symphonia (Summon)
11/25/09
is the Summon Spirit of Wind, also representing one of the four cardinal elements of the Tales games. Sylph has appeared in several games of the series through spell summons and cameo appearances. Sylph is opposed by Gnome, the Summon Spirit of Earth. In Tales of Rebirth, Sylph is instead replaced by Wontiga, the Sacred Beast of Wind.
Sylph is the Summon Spirit of Wind. In some cases, Sylph is a collection of faeries, as in Phantasia and Symphonia, or as a male sprite, as in Eternia.
Tales of Phantasia
Sylph appears as small sprites inhabiting the Lone Valley. Collectively Sylph, they are one of the first four Spirits that the party must face before they can meet Maxwell, the Spirit of Matter. Miasma, the wind of Daemonium, drives many Sylph crazy, resulting in the need for the party to battle them as they climb their peak. Once the Miasma is dispersed, Sylph appears before the party and directs them to Martel.
Sylph requires the Opal Ring to forge a pact, granting Klarth F. Lester with the power to summon them in battle. When summoned, Sylphs create a tornado localized around one enemy.
Tales of Destiny
Sylph being summoned in Tales of Destiny
Sylph can be summoned through the consumable item "Sylph," which is described as an ancient weapon capable of calling forth the wind spirit. Appearing as a harpy-like creature, it summons cutting gales to cut through all enemies.
Tales of Symphonia
Sylph, the Heavenly Messengers, are actually three separate beings, collectively Sylph, and are one of the Sylvaranti Summon Spirits. Sephie, the apparent leader, carries an over-sized sword, while Yutis uses a bow, and Fairess defends with an over sized shield. Sephie is the main physical attacker while Yutis provides support at a long range and Fairess casts spells. Residing in the Balacruf Mausoleum, they are the Summon Spirit of Wind. Once summoned through Summon: Wind (??????, Koureishoufu: Kaze?), which will display Sylph's name at the top, Sephie attacks with enemies, followed by Yutis who fires off a few arrows, and finishing off with Fairess who tackles her opponents with her shield.
Tales of the Abyss
Sylph is mentioned in one of the texts of the library in Daath, with his name used to represent the fifth day of the week, Sylphday, as well as the second and eleventh months, Sylph Decan and Sylph Redecan. The spear "Sylph" names him as the aggregate sentience of the Third Fonon, the Fonon of Wind.
