Hello,
Well, it's Sunday morning so I'd better ease you in gently, so here's some tunes in a Radio 2 papers and croissants stylee. Pick and mix in a jukebox fashion if you so wish.
The Umbrellas - Opening Titles

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aip3836VtZ0Labi Siffre - Watch Me
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MQfJDQxcjmgA bit of a gaelic feel here, inspired by my job snapping vintage models in St Pancras Station last Thursday under the gaze of the great Betjeman statue, but also feeling v. tempted to jump on the Eurostar and be in Paris in an hour and a half. And Mr Siffre because well, I owe him one. Many years ago, he was playing a gig in Trafalgar Square to celebrate Free South Africa. Anyway, after a night out in Soho with a friend I ending up walking down towards the Square to see if I could sneak my way in in to REM's encore (who'd bother doing that now?) and found that they'd gone. But, it was left to Mr Mark Lamarr to introduce the final act of the night. Intro (sarcastic voice) And now for a true inspiration and tireless campaigner for a better South Africa, Mister Labi Siffre. At which point I loudly and slightly drunkenly exclaimed Ha!! thinking old Mark was taking the piss. It's the voice that does it, and despite no one around actually noticing I had done that, I still feel a twinge of guilt and I still can't listen to 'Something Inside So Strong'. Right, back to the music.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mUW1SGF7bR8I hope there's approval of my choices?
So, it's Happy Birthday to Mary-Louise Parker (Actress, 1964), Wes Craven (Director, 1939) and my personal favourites.
Edward Furlong (Actor, 1977) Best known for Terminator II, but more importantly as 'Outsider Art' photographer Pecker
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S-q73TLDrIwKevin Smith (Director, 1970) Though he hasn't done too much recently, but who has eh??
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n6lzEhoXadsAnd raise a glass (I know it's a bit early) to those who make this country great. Alan Whicker (Broadcaster, Presenter, Bon Viveur 1925) and Peter O' Toole (Actor, Chap, walking cliche of troubled actors everywhere, 1932).
Whicker Island
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cn8Pua5rhj4At this point, I must go back into the mists of time and remember a dreadful prediction. Back in the early nineties I remember watching Pebble Mill At One on a near regular basis. Just before Christmas one year I remember them hosting a live Variety Club dinner with a young Alan Titchmarsh, doing a very passable impression of Alan Partridge. Half way through up popped a slightly worse for wear O'Toole to present an award. At which point my friend Rob went into a trance, a bit like an old gypsy at a fun fair and looking at the state of Mister O' Toole (looking pretty dreadful) predicted he had AIDS and would be dead in six months. And lo and behold fifteen years on he's still going!! Still being nominated for Oscars!! Did win for Venus? And dancing around a church with Leslie Phillips (yes he's still alive too). And despite alcoholism, numerous marriages, his dog dying and various other tragedies, he still looks pretty good! And sartorially exceptional which is the true mark of a gentleman.
