I read the Ecologist article about Reverend Billy. It was interesting and stimulated some thoughts. What he is describing is how the system the capitalistic way of behaving - comes into more and more parts of our lives in Finnish you can talk about läpikapitalisoituminen. I support this Billys action, because he gives something to think about. The problem, however, in my mind is that we at least many - already are so indoctrinated and alienated in this system that its a part of us. Therefore we feel the change in the capitalistic system that something new is happening . something what we are dependent on. But also, because we know the system so well, we can defend us from it and make our own judgments. For example I feel better to drink coffee at McDonalds compared to a nice cafeteria like Ekbergs. Its cheaper and you dont have to pretend to feel something. I have also difficulties in these nice places with the history of high and low class people. In the same way, I think shopping centersare more nice o visit than expensive shops in the city center. One of my favorite places to eat are also gasoline station cafeterias. But back to Billy. As I wrote, I think he is doing a important job by showing you can make an own decision, but we all other, who are not a part of this mental wave have also the right to live our lives as well as we can. Summa sumarum: I think its good to try to live in reality the complicated thoughts that you have in your mind.

_ He will preach the gospel of anti-consumerism; will tell tales of devastated neighbourhoods, cannibalised by chainstores and left out in the sun to die. He will amuse and infuriate, the Starbucks employees will shuffle their feet, the branch will beginto empty and, if hes lucky, Billy will be thrown out, still preaching. He loves being thrown out. Billy has also written a number of scripts, which anyone, anywhere, can perform loudly, of course in their local Starbucks with a friend. One features a couple loudly discussing their imminent sex in the Starbucks toilet. In another, an ex-prisoner pops in for a coffee and discovers that the packaging hes just bought was glued by him while he was inside. Another, entitled Where My Latte Gets Its Bovine Growth Hormones, features two lovers whose relationship has been sponsored by Monsanto. Starbucks hates and fears the Reverend so much so that they distributed a memo to all their New York employees entitled What should I do if Reverend Billy is in my store? Hide, perhaps. __
