Whew!

I'm a little surprised at how profoundly relieved I am. I don't think I realized how much this election was stressing me out. I think I was actually feeling like we were approaching a point in time when there would be no realistic end to the broadening spiral of problems here in the US and around the world. And that if we didn't elect Obama, at best we would keep going down that path and at worst we would exponentially accelerate the decline into war, poverty, environmental disaster, exploitation of the poor by the rich, and institutionalized intolerance and hate.

It's so frustrating to watch us as a human race, which should be capable of so much more, consistently underachieve. And it's particularly frustrating to see the United States fail to set the example for peace, posterity and achievement - we have every advantage here, we have a proven history of making lives better and not too long ago we had the trust and admiration of many other people around the world.

Of course, it's unrealistic to count on one man being able to change everything - especially one with very little true executive experience. But I don't think anyone who ever achieved anything great was truly prepared for what they were about to attempt. And Obama just strikes me as the kind of human being with all of the right tools and the right moral compass to achieve good and great things.

And with a little cooperation from the people in charge of other countries and big businesses around the world we might actually have a shot at choosing a new way of doing things that starts us all in the right direction again.

I guess that's a long-winded way of saying I'm very pleased to have a little hope again. Congrats Barack Obama, and good luck.

Though I am a Japanese, I've watched the election for more than a year. Many Japanese would wish and want to have a leader like Obama in Japan, I guess.

I am so proud of him, I am so proud of the US for making the right choice. Everytime I read something about Obama I get goosebumps, and it was no different now reading your post. I realize how important this victory is and how many people Obama will inspire - how many people will see in him, that nothing is impossible.
Congratz to him, to us supporters and to the great united states of america !
