summer afternoon by the harbour

7/11/09
Roasting hot day yesterday, the weekend was supposed to be raining, but now we're told the rain won't arrive until the small hours of tonight, so we got a very sunny Saturday, so I headed off down the coast to Musselburgh then since it was so nice instead of jumping another bus I decided to walk along the coast to Portobello (Edinburgh's beach - yes, we have beaches as well as extinct volcanoes and castles) enjoying the sun nicely balanced by a lovely cool breeze blowing off the sea. Both were very busy, unsurprisingly (as was the city centre when I went through it, every pavement cafe and bar was filled with people eating and drinking outside, all the parks were full).

This is down in the wee harbour at Musselburgh just a few hours ago this afternoon. The tide was just coming in - the end closest to the land was still shallow so the boats were tilted over a bit, not afloat yet, the ones nearest the harbour mouth were afloat, but just, so I was really surprised to see this guy starting his engine and sailing it to the harbour mouth (it seemed to me he was too early to be doing that and a bit silly), then he stopped as I stood on the other sea wall and tied it up next to the last set of steps, he was picking up another man and a wee boy, then they sailed off out into the Forth, bouncing around as the strong wind was creating quite a few waves. Its quite odd, at low tide the water pulls back so far you can actually walk across the wet sand from the beach and walk into the harbour mouth over wet sand, although you've got to be careful as its easy to sink into it that far out :-)

again, one more of your super shots...
if it weren't for a second look, I would swear the guy was climbing down...I didn't see the rock stairs at my first glance.

...about the wee lad in my today's log: yes, my nephew is such a clever little felow. I really love him. BTW I am pretty close to my family, which is kind of rare in people's lives nowadays...

hahfdfhahah

"The way into my parlour
Is up a winding stair;
And I have many curious things
To show you when you're there."
"Oh, no, no," said the little fly;
"To ask me is in vain;
For who goes up your winding stair
Can ne'er come down again."

....

"wow, brilliant close up"

that butterfly had just been born,
it was a lovely sunny day,
I had arrived home from work,
my camera was very near that scene...

that was a lucky shot !!

"hehehe, friendly doggies!"

pets... the happiest creatures in the planet....

Sounds like a great day! I wouldn't mind sailing away myself ...

Hi Joe!
great photo!
Such a beautiful old wall!
Hope your week goes well!
take care!

it makes me feel like tired biat, myself... someway i am. the need to rest...

re: I did a little research on the church, the original structure was built in 1915, quite old for Anchorage, and various parts have been built on since. I like the art-deco flavor too.

The contrast is amazing between the high and low tide.
Happy trails...Chris

It's a great shot

Hope you enjoy the day

Take care
