At the White House Correspondent's Dinner, comedian Stephen Colbert (a man with cojones) serves some satire on the President and the supine press corps.

"I believe that the government that governs best is a government that governs least, and by these standards we have set up a fabulous government in Iraq"

"Fox News gives you both sides of every story, the President's side and the Vice President's side"

"It's like boxing a glacier. Enjoy that metaphor, because your grandchildren will have no idea what a glacier is."

Thanks for the links, Rob; I can't believe I missed the show!

good for Colbert... I guess.
but let's not forget that this is
just propaganda nonetheless.
making light of an administration that
is killing, lying and stealing...

trying to make us think that Bush is
actually really just a swell guy.

yes, it is usually part of the 'folksy' propaganda - that sickening charade last year where Bush was joking about not finding WMD's... while soldiers are still dying in Iraq.

However, this year Colbert subverted it completely and made it clear that the press are culpable too.

" Here's how it works: the president makes decisions. He's the Decider. The press secretary announces those decisions, and you people of the press type those decisions down. Make, announce, type. Just put 'em through a spell check and go home. Get to know your family again. Make love to your wife. Write that novel you got kicking around in your head. You know, the one about the intrepid Washington reporter with the courage to stand up to the administration. You know: fiction! "

i love that yr icon right now is Colbert

Once the lunatics have taken over the asylum it doesn't get much worse. Thank God for the Onion and the Daily Show.

Those fellows rock, Jon Stewart is excellent, as is Colbert. I don't know why Bush can't be impeached for lying about WMD, though? Didn't Nixon get almost impeached for the same thing?

We watched this with our mouths hanging open at how deftly he managed to nail both the 'journalists' and the 'leaders'. I also admired at the way he didn't need the confirmation of laughter. Wotta fella.

Hey friend!! How are you?
I´m back.

i loved bush's recent comment about relaeasing POWs from G-bay: which went along something as ... "we will give these guys a fair trial but they are murderers of the most evil kind"....
it must take a greater level of intelligence to be fair
