A journey to the south -around the Gaza Strip

A swallow tail butterfly:

The common swallowtail butterfly occurs throughout the Mediterranean including Israel, but in Israel there is also a subspecies in the Judean Hills, the Galilee and the Gilboan hills. The sub-species is given the name Maccabaeus harking back to the jewish leader Judas Maccabeus who led the Jewish revolt against the Seleucid Empire (167 BC-160 BC)and is acclaimed as one of the greatest warriors in Jewish history alongside Joshua, Gideon and David.

The Jewish feast of Hanukkah ("Dedication") which wil be comming soon, commemorates the restoration of Jewish worship at the temple in Jerusalem in 165 BC, after Judah Maccabee removed the pagan statuary.

In the early days of the rebellion, Judah received a surname Maccabee. Several explanations have been put forward for this surname. One suggestion is that the name derives from the Aramaic maqqaba ("makebet" in modern Hebrew), "hammer" or "sledgehammer" (cf. the cognomen of Charles Martel, the 8th century Frankish leader), in recognition of his ferocity in battle. It is also possible that the name Maccabee is an acronym for the Torah verse Mi kamokha ba'elim YHWH, "Who is like unto thee among the mighty, O LORD!" (Exodus 15:11).

Hello Wally,

This is a very beautiful pic of this beautiful butterfly.
My compliments.

Have a wonderful weekend.

De Queen butterfly is the name in Holland.

have a nice day.

Wow, beautiful picture of this butterfly. Still summer there, when they flly happily around.

Hi!!! Great pic. When I was a little girl I enjoyed to run after these big butterflies. Where I spent my summer holidays there were lots of them and also some very little and very blue. Have a nice evening:))))

omg!!! So neat shot!!! I'm fascinated by butterflies!

(One of this days I was thinking about how the media distorts information based on their political interests, because they comented in the nacional journal here in brazil that the president of Iran said that the state of Israel should be wiped out from the map.

In fact, I have already heard the same distorted thing through the american media (wich I love to follow just to see this disturbing things) but I have done my homework finding the original speech of ahmadinejad where he says something completly diferent like "the unhuman and fascist politics of the state of Israel should be wiped out from the map. And following the speech he had even demonstraded concer for the people of Israel wich were aldo victms of their government. (I'm not saying ahmadinejad is a nice fellow, pnly that the midea distoted the whole thing on purpose)

And today I stumbled upon the rabin wanting to make a clear distinction between zionism and judaism and he seems very concerned with the actual state of politics today in the country.
