"Indian Love Call" is from the musical play "Rose-Marie" which premiered in September 1924 at Broadway's Imperial Theatre. The Rudolf Friml operetta with book and lyrics by Otto Harbach and Oscar Hammerstein 2nd was one of the biggest hits of the season and one of the top grossing shows of the 1920s. Mary Ellis played Rose-Marie, a singer in a hotel located in the Canadian Rockies, and Dennis King was Jim Kenyon, the man she loved, who was unjustly accused of murder. "Rose-Marie" ran for 557 performances on Broadway, and at one point there were four road companies of the show touring America at the same time. It was then produced at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane in London in 1925, enjoying another extraordinary run of 581 performances. The best-known song from the musical is "Indian Love Call". It became Jeanette MacDonald and Nelson Eddy's "signature song" as featured in the 1936 film version.
