It's a mystery

Bought some new sandals a couple of months ago, didn't wear them for a couple of weeks and when I wanted to I thought "Ooooh these are smelly" and put them in the garage. The box I left. Today I decided to put the box ready to use for the shoebox appeal later in the year and when I came to empty it of the packaging ................ aaaggggggggghhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!! I found a small plastic bag of roast beef quietly festering underneath. Given that I haven't bought roast beef in 30 years how on earth did it get there?
The box is in the bin and the sandals when checked, no longer smell.

Re the beef: some of the (alleged) beef which I get from my local takeaway tastes more like the soles of sandals; maybe someone did a swap?
