Matthew ha estado actuando desde que tenia cinco años, despues de visitar un club de actores aficionados. El consiguio el papel de Neville en un casting abierto que se realizo en su ciudad Leeds.
Matthew a participado en muchas serias televisivas, incluidas Heartbeat, City Central, Where the Heart is, Sharpe y Some Kind Of Life.
Cuando Matthew no esta ocupado en filmaciones suele pasar el tiempo con sus amigos, leer y escribir cuentos cortos, escuchar musica rock, jugar a videojuegos y hacer deportes-especialmente golf.
